A complex software fault is usually caused by software conflicts, e.g. 1 piece of software conflicting with another. This can happen when an update is released that alters the way an application interacts with a system. The best way to remedy a fault of this nature is to run System Restore and return the computer to a previous fully working state. System Restore can do this without affecting the users other files. This method is recommended as it is often the safest and quickest way to remedy a conflict.
Complex hardware faults occur when the solution requires a technician to eliminate a selection of possible causes, e.g. a power failure could be down to a faulty power lead or PSU failure. Rectifying a complex hardware fault requires a methodical elimination of possibilities; this can be time consuming but is the best way of ensuring the fault will be found.
